Norman Langford

Clan Ventrue
Vintage Saga

Description

~Norm looks to be approaching his middle age with burgeoning wrinkles that an outgoing smile cracks wide, reflected also by a merry sparkle in his blue eyes. He proudly wears fine suits, evincing his status as an accomplished financier. Still, he’s mostly a relaxed player, running a hand through dirty-blond hair without a care to its styling. Naturally mussed seems to fit him well anyway, despite the signs of his high chin and pensive speech patterns that makes him seem high-strung. "Circumspect but willing" describes his poise quite well as he ventures forward, hands in his pockets.~

History

Honor Roll

Norman Langford's folks knew what they were doing when they had their one and only son in 1964. His father worked in a factory and his mother was a doctor's office assistant. They were barely middle class and knew they could only afford one child. They were going to raise that child right and ensure their child was even more successful than they. Norman grew up in the suburbs popping up around Chicago and was raised well in a caring home. He was taught to study hard and stick to his guns.

And that was just what Norm did. With a solid head for math, a destiny in economics seemed inevitable. With his good grades, Norm easily cruised into Chicago's School for Business. He scored a Bachelor's in Finance, minoring in Business Management. More importantly, he fostered good connections in the real-world business community. So when he graduated, he easily scored a ranking role in a Chicago-based real estate investment company. Norm was all business-minded, leaving little time for a social life. He was an achiever, after all, and he knew he was making his family proud.

A Good Investment

So he dedicated his life to Cullen Investments...in more ways than he ever expected. After many years, Norm acquainted in 1997 an investor at the company named William Connor, a brilliant, savvy, and charismatic gentleman with peculiar habits. After months of helping Mr. Connor with his finances, the man confided in Norm his secret. He was Kindred, an undead member of a secret society, and a descendant of the Ventrue family. To most people, that would sound like outlandish nonsense. But it made sense to Norm, probably because Mr. Connor had been slipping drops of vitae into Norm's drinks. Blood Bonded to the Ventrue now, Norm willingly went to work for him exclusively.

In fact, Norman joined a small entourage of servants in William's large household and moved to his mansion estate. Granted, most of William's ghouled employees were bodyguards or maids. Norm had the distinguished place as the sole financier and intellectual in this bizarre family. For five years, he faithfully served the Connor household. He increased William's riches many times.

But he began to learn a valuable lesson there: wealth and success breeds envy and greed. The threats to his Domitor's unlife grew steadily. It seemed some Kindred were not clever enough to hire a clever accountant and steward like Norm. They just wanted to take what William had, and punish the Ventrue for daring to have it. William seemed to sense his impending doom in 2002. He gathered Norman and his chief of bodyguards only, offering them the Embrace to pass on his lineage. Norman had little time to decide, but agreed by the next night.

Deer in the Headlights

And it was none too soon: the Anarchs fell upon the Connor estate with bitter wrath. Norman was changed, but he was forced to flee. The bodyguard sought revenge for his sire and long-time Domitor, but he fell to the Anarchs, too. The mansion was burnt to the ground, Norman's sire and brother still staked through the heart and left within. The fledgling ran into the Windy City and took shelter among the Ventrue elders there. They handled his Becoming with surprising sympathy. William was well-liked, it seemed. Norman was introduced gradually into the mysteries of the Kindred he was not privy to as a mere ghoul.

And yet, Norm never quite took to the idea that he was replacing his sire. He didn't feel like he could ever be that strong, that confident of a leader. He happily aided his fellow Ventrue keep their affairs in order. But Norman strangely seemed to lack the ambition common to his clan. With the Chicago council's encouragement, Norman finally found the daring-do to leave the city and strike out and find his own place. He would have to find the courage to stake his own claim, achieve his own status, and ensure his own future in the world. So as Norman traveled west to eventually reach Centropolis, Missouri, in 2009, the young Ventrue just hoped that maybe somebody might help.

Significant Others

Annabelle and Adeline Dunwich: they’re a set of bewitching twins, daughters of Clan Toreador, and talented artists in the world of interior design. They enthralled (spelled with a lower case!) Norman not long after he arrived to Centropolis in late ‘09. Their need for a feet-on-the-ground guide and backer propelled Norm to pick up the torch and help the charming duo however he could. His magnanimous offer brought him unexpected appreciation from the twins in the form of a growing affection. And he’s luckier than he ever dreamed he could be, for he’s won over the hearts of both women.

Weakness
Entourage

Norman has yet to get over the idea that he is no longer someone's ghouled vassal. He's full-fledged Kindred now, and needs to find the strength to be independent.

Likelihood of Corruption

Average.

Norman is a kind and good-spirited fellow. He's just your average ignorant and naive Cainite, and thus as vulnerable to corruption as the rest.
